American pioneering geographer and licensed preacher. In 1789 he became a pastor. Morse was a proponent of upholding the faith of the New England church against the assaults of Unitarianism. While teaching, he saw the need for a geography textbook oriented to the forming nation. He wrote Geography Made Easy (1784) which was followed by American Geography (1789), which was widely cited and copied.Morse also rebutted certain stereotypes about Native Americans and played a part in the anti-illuminatie conspiracy theory movement.

He was the father of the inventor of the Morse code Samuel F. B. Morse.
